N. D. Moore Family Meet
For Picnic-Reunion
The families of the sons and
k daughters of the late Mr. and
FMrs. N. D. Moore of Polk County
on the Rutherford R. F. D. sec
tion held their annual picnic and
reunion at the old home place cn
Sunday. Nine of the ten children
with their families were present,
and the family of a deceased broth
er, Elias Moore, represented him.
The five sons and four daughters
present with their families in
cluded Jim Moore of Tryon; Al
bert, of Lynn; Ralph, Frank and
Wincher (Dick) of Rutherfordton
R. F. D.; Mrs. Ellis Pearson of
Melrose; Mrs. Albert Lynch of
Laurens, S. C.; Mrs. Robert Dal
ton of Tryon; and Mrs. Birch
Montfredo of Rutherfordton.
Flynn Wins Golf Match
l In the Match Play versus Par
| Tournament at the Tryon Country
Club Sunday first place was won
by M. B. Flynn, who shot an 80
with a handicap of 12, giving him
a ent of 68 and ended the match
4up on par for 18 holes. Edward
Sayre was second ending 2 up cn
par. Sayre shot a 76 with a 6
handicap giving him a net of 70.
A New Discovery Will Be
Shown At Kiwanis
P. L. Barnett will be in charge
of the Tryon Kiwanis Club pro
gram on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at
Hotel Tryon. Mr. Barnett states
that he will demonstrate a new
development in his business.
Baby Killed In Auto Collision
Near Bird Mountain Sunday
An auto accident which injur
ed five persons and caused the
death of a 3Vz -month-old *baby
occurred Sunday afternoon about
4 o’clock near the Bird Mountain
filling station south of Tryon
when two automobiless collided.
One car was driven by Lieuten
ant W. K. Pflaum of Camp Croft
and the other by Horace Sitton
of the Spartanburg fire depart
ment. The Pflaum car went down
the embankment 30 or 40 feet
turning over several times. Wil
liam Michael small baby of Lieut,
and Mrs. Pflaum died Sunday
night at 11:45 at St. Luke’s hos
pital. The condition of the others
injured was considered satisfac
tory this morning, although the
Pflaum’s 2V2 -year-old daughter,
Mary Judith, was in a serious
condition. Mrs. Pflaum suffered
wounds about the face and arms.
Lieutenant Pflaum received in
juries to the knees and cuts and
bruises.
There were two passengers in
the other car. Sutton received
minor bruises and cuts. Miss
Evelyn Farmer, 18, of Spartan
burg, suffered a hip fracture and
other injuries about the body and
face.
The wet pavement is thought to
have caused one or both of the
cars to skid.
Chief Kiser Resigns
Chief of Police Hague Kiser will
submit his resignation tonight at
the meeting of the Town Council
at 7:30.
