Est. 1-31-28 Commencement Exercises Friday for Tryon Boys’ Club With the commencement pro gram on Friday, August Ist, the VTryon Boys’ Club ends its sum (»kfer work. Last Thursday the ▼boys under twelve spent the night at Lake Lanier. L. A. Avant gave permission for the club to use his cottage. For the majority of the ycung boys this was an initial ex perience. The youngest member was seven years of age. Tuesday night 20 of the older boys attended their annual camp at Turkey Oak in Green River Cove. This is an ideal place with the river to swim in. good drink ing water, and shelter in case of rain. Mr. Bradley, the owner, for several years has given the club the privilege of camping there. With the commencement pro gram Friday, the work of the Club will close for the summer. Competition is still keen for the giioup shield, and will end on .JZlmursday when the winning group will be selected. Another impor tant point to decide on Thursday will be the winners of the two cups when the entire Club will vote on the two outstanding boys who have stood out as being true representatives of the Club for the six weeks session. Cub Meeting Tonight; Open To Public The Tryon Cub Pack, parents and friends of all young boys will meet tonight at 8 o’clock at the Parish House to see the Tryon Pack receive its charter and the members their certificates. CURB REPORTER Mrs. Edna Hague Leonard, former president of the Asheville College Students association, is a member of the campaign commit tee to raise funds to carry on the college. The solicitors want $22,250 and 150 girls want to en ter the freshman class. The col lege will also become co-educa tional after 53 years as a girls school exclusively ..... Major W. A. Skhilletter in addressing the Tryon Kiwanis club on Tues day stated that every courtesy shown by the soldier when off duty is appreciated because the soldiers have so much free time with nothing to do for entertain ment. He was high in his praise of the service given by the Red Cross in making contacts between the army posts and home towns of the soldiers ..... Polk County is one of the ten counties in North Carolina that have had no fatal auto accidents reported during the first six months of this year. Wake county where Raleigh is, had 25 fatal accidents in which 29 people were killed .... Noticed in an agricultural paper where a fellow in Albemarle is adver tising Wilcox Barred Rock chick ens.
