Est. 1-31-28 Brother of Tryon Man Dies In Plane Crash Fleetwood D. Hancock, 40, chief petty officer in the U. S. Coast and brother of Craig Han ‘4P-cock of Tryon, was killed Tues day when the amphibian plane in which he was riding crashed against a rock while flying at low altitude about 25 miles off San Francisco. None of the bodies has been found. All Stars Next Week The All Stars game to be played next Wednesday night at 8:15 at McCormick Field, Ashe ville between representatives of the Western North Carolina In dustrial League teams and the Tri-State League teams will have two members of the Adams-Millis nine, Short Stop Harold Culler and First Baseman M. C. Staton. Tournament At Tryon ' Country Club This Week A Ball Sweepstakes golf tour nament will be played at the Try on Country Club this weekend. It will be an 18 holes medal play handicap affair. C., FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 1941 J. T. Arledge Elected President of Tryon Chamber of Commerce The directors of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce who were elected Thursday night at Mis sildine’s Hall met this morning at 10 o’clock and elected the fol lowing officers for the coming year: President J. T. Arledge; vice-president, L. F. Buchanan; secretary-treasurer, Seth M. Vin ing. The Board of Directors elected by the Chamber of Com merce are as follows: For one year, retiring president K. A. Bowen, J. T. Arledge and Seth M. Vining; for a period of two years, Mrs. Rebecca Jervey, A. W. J. B. Hester, Sr.; for three years, C. H. Helms, L. F. Buchanan, Ernest Kerhulas. The secretary-treasurer’s report showed that many seeds of good will -and cooperation with neigh boring commuities had been sowed during the year and that an ad vertising program within the lim its of the budget had been carried out. There was no indebtedness. A small balance was left in the treasury but this would be needed for this year’s supply of folders and literature on Tryon and the surrounding area. J. T. Arledge reported that the county govern ment would cooperate in adver tising the county as a whole with every section represented. W. M. Hester reported that a committee was at work trying to get up a hotel folder for Tryon. A com mittee was appointed to petition the Town Council to prevent double parking on Trade street .continued from page one
