C., has written his acceptance of the in vitation to Charlie Lynch’s Bar becue celebrating the completion of Harmon Field Road . . . Gov ernor Broughton is anxious for North Carolina to be ready for the airplane maneuvers to be con ducted in this State around the first of October. He wired Obser ver Chairman Julian Hester on Monday that he considered it a real emergency and that he would like to have everything in readi ness by September 15th. Chair )man Hester wired him back that |Polk County would not fail. M. B. Caldwell and Boy Scouts are al ready going in training for their job as observers on Tryon Moun tain. Sam Dobson and assistant will watch from the Coxe planta tion. Edwin Leland at Saluda; Tryon Scouts at the J. W. Mar shall place in the Valley, and Robert S. McFarland at Colum bus. Chairman Hester is in need of field glasses. Anyone having field glasses to lend the observers for a few days may telephone Mr. Hester. At least ten pairs nre needed. W. W. Creasman is the coordinator of observers . . . . New Bulletin subscriptions have been entered for Bill Derby at The Citadel, Charleston; Miss continued on back page. Presbyterian Meeting Postponed To Thursday The Woman’s Circle of the Presbyterian church has postpon ed its meeting until Thursday afternoon at 3:45 at the home of Mrs. H. L. Fite. The program will be in charge of Mrs. Jack Gaze. STONE-SCISM Mrs. Vic Seism has announced the marriage of her daughter, Miss Ruth Seism, to Corporal David Stone of New York, who is stationed at Camp Croft. The wedding took place on Sunday, September 6th at Spartanburg. Stores Close Last Time Wednesday Afternoon The Tryon stores will end their summer Wednesday afternoon closings this Wednesday as agreed at the beginning of the season. Wednesday was chosen this sum mer instead of Thursday as in the past. In making their change in the half-day holidays the Post Office will close Wednesday after noon and also Saturday afternoon. After this week the Post Office will resume its Saturday after noon closing. During the summer Postmaster Stearns cooperated with the merchants by closing cn Wednesdays instead of Satur days. SOFTBALL TODAY Kilowatters and Adams-Millis No. 1 will play softball this af ternoon at 6 o’clock at Adams- Millis ball park.
