C., MONDAY, SEPT. 15, 1941 Services for Miss Harper Funeral services for Miss Susan Harper who died at St. Luke’s hospital Saturday night will be held at the Erskine Memorial [Jf)hurch at 11 a. m., Tuesday. Rev. C. Arthur Lincoln, pastor of the church, and Rev. William P. Jackson will officiate. The active pallbearers will be E. G. Vollmer, Seth M. Vining, C. M. Howes, Frank Arthur, Fred Swann, Sr., and K. A. Bowen. Honorary pall bearers, Nelson Jackson, Jr., Ralph S. Jackson, Dr. A. J. Jervey, Wal ter M. Howell, Broadus Ballenger, and A. T. Whittlesey. Interment services will be held at the family burial polt in Milford, Michigan. Miss Harper was born January 9, 1862, at Milford, Mich., and cam e to Tryon in 1929 where she became active in church and com munity enterprises. From 1932 to 1936 she was president of the Woman’s Society of Erskine Me morial Congregational church and swerved one term as trustee of the *?hurch. She was much interested in the work of the Garden club, the Polk County chapter of the American Red Cress and the Lanier club. Miss Harper is survived by three brothers: George Harper of Jones ville, Mich.; R. S. Harper of Garden City, Kan.; D. N. Harper of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters: Mrs. Wm. S. Lathers, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. I. N. Perin, Sian Diego, Cal.; Mrs. W. K. Sexton, Howell, Mich.; and Mrs. H. H. Seeley, Ann Arbor, Mich. Several nephews and nieces also survive her and among these who are ..... Continued on Back Page Charges Against Kiser Dissmissed A warrant charging misappro priation of funds of the Town of Tryon, sworn out by Elmer Payne, colored against former Chief of Police Hague Kiser, has been dis missed. by Magistrate Arthur At kins of Columbus. Magistrate Atkins took a “nol pros” in the case for lack of sufficient evidence to hold Kiser for further court proceedings. It is alleged by the negro man that he was to pay the former Tryon chief of police a sum of money to be relieved of a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Evidence could not be produced in a sufficient amount to warrant a charge of embezzelment. The former chief of police denied the charge. The negro is now serving a sentence in the chain-gang for carrying a concealed weapon. He was arrested by a member of the sheriff’s department for carrying a concealed weapon and was con victed at the August term of Superior Court in Columbus. GARDEN CLUB MEETS ON WEDNESDAY The Tryon Garden club will meet at the home of Mrs. Sbhuyler Hamilton in Gillette Woods at 3 p. m., on September 17th Mrs. Bradley Morrah, of Green ville, S. C., will address the club on the subject of Terraced Gard ens.
