ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT THE POSTOFFICE AT TRYON, N. C. UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 THE TRYON DAILY BULLETIN lc per copy (The World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper) lc per copy Seth M. Vining. Editor 51.50 Year in the Carolinas Vcl. 14. Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., SATURDAY, SEPT. 27, 1491 Dr. W. E. Sawyer At Tryon Rotary Club Before leaving Sunnydale yes terday many members of the Try on Rotary club stopped to thank W. E. Sawyer for the inter besting and constructive talk on - Vocational Education which he made at the weekly Rotary lun cheon. Dr. S ! awyer, superintendent of Polk County’s rural schools, was introduced by Fred Owen who had charge of the day’s program. He spoke of the need of scientific agricultural training for boys and full home making courses for girls, and what these practical courses will do to develop the character and personalities of students. It has long been known that an actual majority of boys and girls are fitted by nature for such practical courses of training, as against the minority for whom the traditional academic studies are better suited, and that the practi- al type, if it receives the kind ybf education it ought to have, will develop character and per sonality equal to the best. The Visitors with a big, rugged team scored in the first quarter but could not muster up the necessary punch to cross the goal again. The young Tryon gridders settled down after the first quarter and pushed the big boys from the Key City all ever the playing field. In the last quarter a spectacular run by McGeachy for thirty yards set the stage for what should have been a touchdown. Beatson by an end run placed th e ball on the ten yard stripe. A few more punches made it third down with two to go for a tally. Two stabs through the middle of the line gained nothing and Black Mountain warded off the threat and kicked out of danger. The game was spectacular from start to finish with the opposing teams keeping th e spectators fol lowing the plays from one end of the field to the other. The Tryon team sorely missed the services of Captain Jack Melton, whose block ing was needed to clear the way for the ether backs. The passing and runs of Beatson again stood out while the defensive and of fensive play of Locke McGeachy was the highlight of the day. Wail was particularly effective in break ing up end runs. Tryo n will meet Welcome high of Greenville cn Harmon Field next Friday, October 3rd. Line-up: Le. Moore; It. Arledge; lg. Cox; c. Marion Edwards; rg. continued on back page
