Swann, formerly with Andrews & Swann, has accepted a position with the Ballenger Co., With whom he was associated for -T9 years before going in business for himself. Mr. Swann returns to the store after an absence of about ten years. He and Jim Jim Moore, who has been with the store for many years, will have an interest in the grocery department of The Ballenger Company. . Kiwanis Meets Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanis club will meet on Tuesday at Oak Hall at 1 p. m. The program will be in charge of Steth M. Vining. Reception For Teachers At Sunnydale Thursday At Sunnydale, on Thursday af ternoon, October 2nd, will be held the annual reception for the fac -oilty of the Tryon Public School. iVrom 4 to 5:30 there will be open 'house, and a cordial invitation is extended to every citizen of Tryon, young and old, to come to Stinny dale, and greet the new, as well as the old, teachers, and enjoy a social cup of tea with their friends. Don’t forget the date, Oct. 2nd, from 4 to 5:30. — SR. Did you know that more than twelve mililon sportsmen in the United States have bought fishing licenses in a single year? It is said that approximately this many more do not have to buy licenses for one reason or another. How does that leave anybody to play golf and hoe the garden? British Author to Lecture At Converse College On Wednesday, October Ist Spartanburg, SI C., Sept. 29. (Special to the Tryon Daily Bul letin) —Charles Morgan, British author and critic will lecture in Twitchell auditorium, Converse colege, Wednesday night, October 1, at 8:30 o’clock. Mr. Morgan is being presented by the college as the first in a series of lectures by men prominent in a variety of fields. All of the convocation pro grams will be in line with the general theme, “The American Way”, and the public is invited to attend. Admission is free. At Converse, Mr. Morgan will lecture on the subject, “The Stream of History.” Educated from boyhood as a naval officer, Mr. Morgan served in the Atlantic and the China fleets of England. In 1913 he left the Navy to become a writer, and served throughout the great war. In 1919 he went to Oxford, where he took Honours in modern history. In 1921 he joined the editorial staff of “The Times” of London and from 1926 until the outbreak of the present war, he was principal dramatic critic to that newspaper. Meanwhile his novels began to appear. He received the Femina- Vie Heureuse Prize in 1930 for the book, “Portrait in a Mirror,” 1929; the H'awthornden prize in 1933, after publication of “The Fountain,” 1932; “Sparkenbroke” appeared in 1936; and his latest novel, “The Voyage,” published in October, 1940, was immediately CONTINUED ON BACK PAGE
