Mere than two-thirds of this amount went to Britain. There are more than 1.200,000 volunteers working for the Red Cross in this country, making garments, surgical dressings and other supplies. These are large figures, but more will be needed before the war is ever. When the time comes, join the Red Cross! O. H. POOLE Landrum, Nov. 3—O. H. Poole, 76, died suddenly this morning at h ) o’clock at his home, Tryon Route ■l. He was born in Cleveland county, N. C., but lived in the Sandy Plains section of Polk coun ty for several years. Surviving are three sons, Dennis Poole of Bessemer City, N. C.: Thcmas Poole of Bostic, N. C., and Dave Poole of Tryon, N. C. l’oute 2: two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Panther of Trvon, N. Free Football Game On Wednesday, Nov. sth On Wednesday afternoon at 4 p. m., the Tryon high team will meet Hendersonville high in a re turn practice game. Due to the ardent support which the fans have given the team this year this game will be open to the public with no admission charge. Early in September the Tryon gridders journeyed to Henderson ville and played a practice game which is now being returned. The game was close and hard fought with Hendersonville the winner by a single touchdown. Fans are promised a gcod contest and a large crowd is needed to give the boys the support they deserve. The contributions made by foot ball enthusiasts enabled the Ath letic association to purchase four pairs of shoulder pads and one helmet. The shoulder pads are be ing worn by Baker, Beatson, Jack Melton, and Andrews. Durham has the new helmet. The men who so kindly made this equipment possible can watch these men with special interest. The last game of the schedule will be on Armistice Day, Nov. 11th, when the Spartanburg high Bees will come to Harmon Field at 2:30 p. m. Among the out-of-town guests here for the Avant - Ellis wedding tonight at the Erskine Memorial church at seven o’clock are Capt. J. H.
