Cathey, home service secretary of the Polk County Red Cross has received a letter of thanks from the Montgomery, Ala., Red Cross for her thoughtfulness in writing them about the carrier pigeon 'which stopped at the home of Mrs. ■ Stewart Williams on November -11 th, carrying a message to Nor •man H. Davis, National Chairman that Mayor Cyrus B. , Brown was first ot enroll in Mont «mery County. The Montgomery p)pter released 23 pigeons with the same message. One of the birds reached Washington prompt ly. Only two others have been heard from—the one that stopped at Mrs. Williams in this county, and the other from Bristol, Tenn., where the pigeon refused to leave. The messengers were loaned to the Red Cross by the U. S. Signal Corps .... Thomas Boynton, son of Mrs. Schuyler Hamilton, who is a reporter on the Spartan burg Herald, has been making ob servation trips in the army’s big bomber planes which have been $2.00 PER YEAR Big Kiwanis Meeting Here Representatives of Forest City, Hendersonville and Spartanburg joined the Tryon club in an inter city meeting on Tuesday night at Oak Hall hotel, with President- Elect George A. Cathey, presiding. The program was in charge of C. W. Nessmith. Over 60 persons were present. Inspirational talks on the work of Kiwanis in help ing to build communities and fel lowship among members and on finding their place in the defense of the nation, were made by Car roll P. Regers, J. E. Shipman, C. J. Lynch and Kiwanis Lieut-Gov. Chas. Erwin of Forest City. The assembly sung songs under the leadership of Dr. Will McCall with Mrs. G. M. Schreyer as accom panist. A feature of the musical program was several solos by Ed win Beach with Mrs. Beach as the accompanist. A turkey dinner was served. RAINS END BLACKOUT IN THIS SECTION OPM officials state that the blackout in the southeast will end on December 15th, thanks to the heavy rains the past few weeks. This means that the public can have all the electricity it needs for Christmas tree lights, decora tions and advertising purposes.
