TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, DEC. 3, 1941 Red Cross Report Four years ago, the total amount of money raised in the Annual Red Cross Roll Call was $498.40. The year after, it was $920.00. Last year, it was $967.40 This year it was $1,055.90! A part of this remarkable increase is of course due to the fact Try on has grown during the last four years, but most of it wit nesses to our growing confidence in the Red Cross, and a growing desire to belong to it. This mag nificent total represents 638 full paid memberships, with $101.85 in small contributions of less than one dollar. There were four gifts of $25, nine of $lO, twenty-seven of $5, and two special gifts, des ignated for the Polk County Chap ter for special purpose, amount ing to s3l. Os this total amount, $955.75 was given by the citizens of Tryon. Special mention should be made of $145.75 from the staff and em ployees of the Adams-Millis Cor poration, and $67.90 from the staff and employees of the Sou thern Mercerizing plant. Saluda came in with $40.15; Columbus with $34; Mill Spring with $9, and Greens Creek with sl7. Great credit is due to the twenty-nine members of the Roll Call commit tee for their diligent and patri otic work, but every citizen of Polk County who joined the Red Cross this year has a part in this record-breaking achievement. The chairman says that only one “kick” was reported to him, and in thatcase, the kicker kicked in with a.dollar!! $2.00 PER YEAR
