C., was brought to St. Luke’s hospital Sunday suf fering a fractured pelvis, and cuts and bruises about .the head. Bel cher, it is said was riding in a car with another man and a wo man and fell out of the car as it was descending the Saluda mountain near Tryon. Hospital attaches report his condition as good on Mlonday morning. No ex planation was given as to why the door was opened as the car was on the steep grade. It is thought that probably on e of the sharp curves threw open the door let ting the man fall out. BRITISH WAR RELIEF National Civil Defense authori ties consider the activities of the British War Relief Society an in tegral part of the Civil Defense nrogram. Negro Man Cut By Woman William Felts, colored, of Land rum, was taken to St. Luke’s hos pital Saturday night suffering from razor lacerations inflicted by a colored woman. Ship Whitney, stationed at Pearl Harbor where the Japanese did their most bombing on Sunday, Dec. 7th, wrote heme to his mother the next day that he was getting clong all right and in good health. His letter was censored, and of course no details of the bambard ment were given. He said that he would write later. Polk Students Make Honor Roll At Cullowhee Cullowhee, Dec. 12. (Special) Miss Pauline Haynes, daughter of Mrs. Bcdge Haynes of Mill Spring, and Miss Catherine Wal ker daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. • G. Walker of Mill Spring, were among the forty-five stu dents at Western Carolina Teach ers college to make the Beta honor roll fer the first quarter of the college year. Miss Haynes, a graduate of ' Sunnv View high school, is a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma. Miss Walker is a member of the International Relations club, the Future Teachers of America as sociation, the Association for Childhood Education, the Young Woman’s association and the Big Sisters club. BASKETBALL TONIGHT The Tryon town basketball team and the Lake Lure town basketball team will play tonight at 7:30 at Tryon gymnasium.
