Green will have charge the Trycn Rotary club program Friday at 1 p. m.. at Sunny vale. His program will probably be announced in Thursday’s Bulle tin. J. N. Jackson had charge of the Tryon Kiwanis club program on Tuesdav at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. The Rev. Chas. L. McGavern was the guest speaker and he told cf the importance of cultivating the spiritual values of life, as the ony things of permanent value. The first dance of the Christ mas holidays to be reported will be that of Carter Wilkie Brown and David Howell, which will be given at Sunnydale on Christmas Day, December 25th. >When asked what they needed, yy/i U. S'. Marines on Wake Is land are reported to have said, “Send us some more Japs”. Wake Island has held out against sev eral attacks of the Japanese. The British are preparing their people* to expect the downfall of Hongkong which is surrounded by Japs. Singapore is also in danger. The Chinese are attacking the Japs. The Germans are retreating from Russia and from the British in Africa. The jig’s up we hope for the Axis. The first letter in Japan, the first letter in Italy and the first letter in Germany spell “JIG”! TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, DEC. 17, 1941 CURB REPORTER There are several thousand sol diers at Camp Croft who will be far from home on Christmas. Anyone desiring to have one or mere soldiers as guests on Christ mas day may communicate with Mrs. Fletcher, the hostess at Camp Croft ..... The weather on Tuesday was 24 low and 61 high ..... Mayor Missildine published an ad in the Bulletin on Tuesday urging people who have extra money for fireworks tc spend it for defense stamps or bonds and help defeat Hitler and Japan. As a matter of fact it is against the law to set off fireworks in the town limits and if the offenders are caught the city will give them the “works” with plenty of fire. Anyone desir ing to shoot fireworka should get cut of the city limits .... Today, is the anniversary of the first suc cessful airplane flight by Wilbur Wright, made at Kitty Hawk, N. €., on Dec. 17, 1903 .... New neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Karsten, who bought the Dixon house on Lake Lanier, report that aside from the beauty of the lake scenery they valued its safety from bombing areas and have already sold their Macon, Ga., home, ex pecting to occupy their Tryon home early in January .....
