Philo Higley Picture
Ranked One of Ten Best
Asheville has been chosen as
one cf the three cities in the
States to have a premiere
"showing of Philo Higley’s picture,
“Remember the Day” which opens
on Christmas Day at the Roxy in
New York and at the Imperial
Theatre in Asheville. The New
York News which arrived in Try
on on Tuesday ranks the picture
as one of the Ten Best of the
year. Mr. Higley who saw a pre
view of the picture in New York
before coming to Tryon will at
tend the showing in Asheville on
Christmas Day.
Mrs. Blackwood Executrix
Os Hodges Estate
Mrs. Ibra Blackwood, sister of
the late William Hodges, was
named sole beneficiary and execu
trix of his estate.
> “In the petition to prove the
will in which Mrs. Blackwood as
executrix applied for letters tes
tamentary, the value of the es
tate was placed at $3,500 —$250 in
personal effects; S3OO in household
goods in Polk County, and $3,000,
10 acres and buildings on Hog
back road in Polk County.”
County Offices Closed
The County Court House will
be closed from today noon to
Monday morning, by crder of the
County Commisioners. This will
give all Court House employees a
vacation for the Christmas holi
days.

COMMUNITY SINGING
TONIGHT—B TO 9
Th e weather has turned cut to
be perfect for the singing of
Christmas carols tonight between
8 and 9 o’clock at the park near
the depot. A large tree will be
lighted for the event. White and
colored, old and young are ex
pected to be present.
The entire community and sur
rounding section are invited to
join in the singing which will be
directed by Edwin Beach over a
sound system making it possible
for all to hear and enjoy the
Christmas music.
A colored choir made up of
members of St. Luke’s and Garri
son Chapel churches will partici
pate in the program. So will the
Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, Boy
Sccruts, Girl Scouts and the Tryon
high school Glee club cf which Mr.
Beach is director.
Instrumental music will con
tribute its part to the music.
Among the features will be Mrs.
Vincent MacKenzie with the ac
cordion. She was one of the prize
winners in the recent County con
test at Green’s Creek.
The committee believes that this
is the time for all the community
to get together and sing as a
united community singing carols
to the birth cf Christ.
Pacolet avenue between the de
pot and the first Baptist church
will be roped off in order to ac
commodate the large crowd ex
pected.
