Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., MONDAY, DEC. 29, 1941 CURB REPORTER The holidays have offered lo cal young people and visitors many opportunities to get together and enjoy the fellowship of one an other. There have been two dances and another coming up to bring in the New Year Golf, hikes, games and visiting have kept them on the go as well as a number of church programs .... An at tractive make-up kit was won dur ing the holidays by Mrs. Milton Graham Smith, Jr., nee Evaline Nash of Greenville, in a slogan con test offered by Jane Dalton pro gram over WSPA .... Miss Mary Gamble, Miss Gertrude Schoff, and Miss Elisabeth Watson were caught on the radio program at the railroad station when Miss Gamble left for Washington. They, gave Tryon a boost .... What makes a lot of conservation peo ple sick is to see the unused holly, including a whole tree, left on the green s market bench next to Mis sildine’s. If the mountaineer could only realize that when he de stroys a whole tree he is robbing his children of future income he would not think of destroying the entire tree .... A number of Tryon people had Camp Croft sol diers up for meals during the holidays ..... Silhouettes in Spartanburg Herald - Journal writes: “There is a marriage and Continued on Back Page $2.00 PER YEAR RED CROSS FUND GROWING FAST The last report of the Red Cross War Fund was made a week ago. During that week, everybody has been busy with Christmas giving and receiving. Nevertheless, $281.50 has been contributed to the fund since the last report, making the total $1,345.50. Many members have said that they would not be able to send their contributions until after the first of the year. Such contribtuions will be welcome. The Red Cross War Fund is for the du ration of the war. There is no final date when the “polls are closed.” Mrs. Cathey, Miss Capps, J. B. Hester are ready to receive money at any time. It is cf small importance whether or not Polk “goes over the top”; it is extrem ely important that the Red Cross shall not fail the nation and the world. Watch Night Service At Presbyterian Church A Watch Night Service will be held at the Tryon Presbyterian church on Wednesday night from 11 to 12 o’clock.
