COLUMBUS BOY SCOUTS
PREPARE FOR WAR
At a meeting of the Columbus
Bey Scouts last Tuesday night it
was decided to take up intensive
training in first aid. Scoutmaster
John Brown, announced that a
Tryon doctor had promised to be
present next week or in the near
future tc start this training. They
will all learn how to administer
first aid treatment which is one
of the requirements for a Second
Class Scout. The troop is also
learning some military formations
which are sometimes used in
emptying public buildings orderly,
safely and without panic.
The following boys have recent
ly registered for the ensuing
year: Neil Constance, son of Mrs.
Ed Constance; Edwin Lanning, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lanning;
Charles Blanton, son of Mr. and
Mrs. C E. Blanton; Bob Gibson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gibson;
Robert West, sen of Mr. and Mrs.
Roy West; J. Alvin Wilson, son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wilson;
Randal and Kenneth Lathan, sons
of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Lathan.
The following members of the
troop committee have re-register
ed for next year: C. E. Blanton,
John Gibson, J. A. Wilson and S.
H. Lathan.
The troop is meeting every
Monday night. Four more boys
are working on the tenderfoot re
quirements. Hikes have been an
nounced for each month in the
future. On these hikes the Scouts
will work off many of their re
quirements like tracking, signal
ing, cooking, first aid, etc. The
