Dock Wil son, Mill Spring-Tryon Star route mail carrier also was granted a new tire, but as it was for an ob solete mcdel car the tire was not charged against the Polk County quota, so that leaves six more passenger tires to be rationed to Polk County motorists this month, according to Chairman K. Lynch, at Tryon. $2.00 PER YEAR 40 Soldiers Coming Here Final arrangements have been made to entertain in the neighbor hood of 40 soldiers in Tryon this Sunday. These men will arrive in Tryon at about twenty minutes to eleven at the local bus station. It is requested that all who have invited one or more of them as guests will please be at the bus station to receive them. It has been found necessary tc provide the bus to bring the boys from the camp and the bus com pany is running a special bus at a reduced rate. The cost will be in the • neighborhood of twenty-six dollars and funds to defray this expense will be gratefully receiv ed by Mrs. F. P. Bacon. The committee hopes that as many people as possible will come to the Parish House during the afternoon and join in the period of fellowship. The members of the committee are very sorry that they cannot invite everyone to the sup per but trust that you will under stand that this is an impossibility. A REPORT TO YOU The country-wide response to the appeal for the Red Cross War Fund is heartening. Many chap ters have already passed the goal set for them. It shows that while America girds herself for war, the citizens have not forgotten the “quality of mercy” which is “twice blessed.” Contributions received by the Polk County Chapter, including the pledge of the Southern Mer cerizing company, reported last week, amount to $2,091.50. Mrs. Cathey at the Blue Ridge Weav ers, Miss Capps at Missi'dine’s Pharmacy, J. B. Hester, the treas urer. or any officer of the chapter will receive contributions.
