The sun is shining bright this morning and indications pont to warmer weath er soon. Chicago had a low of -14 (below) yesterday; Buffalo -3. Asheville is covered with snow and ice. We are thankful of the 1,000 feet drop in elevation and for the protecting crescent range of moun. tains 3,000 feet high. Creasman reported yesterday a high of 38 and a low of 25. The warmest it got in Chicago was -3, making a difference of 41 degrees in the high and 39 degrees in the low. . . . Robert Painter of Tryon is driving a 1919 MPdel “T” with Continued on Back Page $2.00 PER YEAR FOUR TOPIC PROGRAM AT ROTARY ON FRIDAY A review of the community in its relation to the national defense nrogram will be presented at the Tryon Rotary club by four speak ers on Friday at 1 o’clock at Sunnydale. The program will be in charge of President James R. Trowbridge. C. J. Lynch, chair man cf the Polk County Council of Civilian Defense will outline the work of the local organiza tion; Rev. Chas. L. McGavem will speak on the work being done to entertain soldiers visiting Try on over the weekends; Dr. Chas. G. Sewall will report on the ef forts of the Polk Countv Chapter of the American Red Cross; Ju lian B. Hester, chairman cf the Polk County Draft Board will ex plain some of the angles of the new draft of men 20 to 44 which begins soon. The purpose of the meeting is to see what pas-t each individual can do to help the na tional cause. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR SALES TOTAL SBOO.OO Final figures from sales at the Christmas Bazaar held by St. Agnes Guild on Tuesday, Decem ber 2, show that apprerimately SBOO was realized. The net re ceipts will run to S6OO. On the basis of net receipts of S6OO, a check for $l2O, or 20 per cent of the net, has been sent to the local branch of the British War Relief Society. And a check for S3O, or 5 percent of the net, has been forwarded to the fund pledged by the. Episcopal church of the States toward the support of British missions hereto fore sustained by the Anglican church.— Contr.
