Lynch and lM)d permits for five truck tires tubes as follows: To Hubert Pack, Tryon Route One, tire and tube; Avant Electric Co., Tryon, tire and tube; Hierbert J. Butler, Tryon, tire and two tubes; R. E. Jolley, Mill Spring, two tires. Chairman K. A. Bowen states that these with previous permits re duce Polk County’s supply of the quota to six passenger tires and 15 truck tires. MASS MEETING There will be a mass meeting of the citizens of Landrum and surounding communities on Thurs day night, January 15th, at 7:30 at the grammar school auditorium. The purpose of this meeting is to organize the community for Civi lian Defense. -A representative of the state JMft of Civilian Defense will be pTNffent to present the scope of the work and to aid in the or ganization. The meeting is spon sored by the Landrum Civic club and the Civic League and they urge all citizens of the community to be present at this meeting. Landrum has held a very suc cessful drive for the emergency Red Cross appeal and went over the suggested quota by a sizeable marginn. McCown. $2.00 PER YEAR Tryon Drops Two to Christ School In Basketball The locals dropped two games at Christ school Tuesday after boon. The varsity, getting away to a slow start, was only able to get ahead once during the game. The Tryon “B’s” came to life in the last quarter, shooting 12 points to run the game into three extra periods before bowing to Christ School’s “B’s” 22-20. Tryon (21)— Melton 7; Scog gins 4; Beatson 1; Baker 5; Brock 0; Arledge 2; Williams 2. Jack Gaze’s Sister Dead Funeral services for Mrs. James P. Knight, sister of J. H. Gaze of Tryon, who died early Tues day morning at her hom e in Greenville, S. C., will be held this afternoon at Greenville. Inter ment in Atlanta, Ga. The deceas ed is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Nicholson, Mrs. W. M. Harper, and one son, Jimmy Knight. And besides Mr. Gaze, she is survived by two other brothers, C. W. and T. R. Gaze of Asheville, and also two sisters, Mrs. H. R. Ross of Detroit and Miss Sybil Gaze of Asheville. P.-T. A.
