Fla., states that Jennings , Ford
of Tryon has re-enlisted in the
Navy and is now stationed at
Jacksonville, Fla. Vernon Hall,
Jr., formerly Os Tryon high
school i s now attending the base
ball schoc'l for the second year at
Orlando, Fla. Don Padgett of
Forest City and member of St.
Louis Cardinals, is an instructor
at the school.

day attending a State Symposium
on the Protection of Public Water

Judge Pless Speaks At
Lanier Library Tonight
Judge J. Will Pless of Marion
will address the citizens of Tryon
and Polk County tonight at 8
o’clock at the Lanier Library un
der the sponsorship of the Polk
County Council of Civilian De
fense. Judge Pless who» is holding
court at Columbus this week, is
considered one of the ablest judges
of the state and an outstanding
speaker. He served as solicitor
for several years before being
elevated to the bench. The public
is invited to< hear him.
TWO CONVICTS ESCAPE
POLK COUNTY JAIL
Hugh Harrill and Clarence
Tyler, two men convicted of high
way robbery in another county of
the state, and who were brought
from Raleigh prison recently to
serve as witnesses in the Pack
case at Columbus, sawed their
way out of the Polk County jail
about 3 o’clock this morning, tied
the jailor, Luther Case, and took
his pistol and money. They were
still at large today noon. Solicitor
Ridings has made motion that they
be declared outlaws. Pack pled
guilty this morning to harboring
the criminals.

been selected to attend Class No.
11 of the Field Artillery School
at Fort Sill, Okla., commencing
February 12, it was announced
by Post officials today.
