Johnson: 1. The quota received for Polk County for the month of January is as follows —truck tires, 21, tubes 18; passenger car tires, 7, tubes 6. 2. Number of applications, 26. 3. Number of application dis approved (a) outs'de classifica tion, 3; (b) over qu'da, rone. 4. Number of certificates issued durine month, 39. 5. Number of tires and tubes authorized to be purchased: Truck tires 10, tubes 12; passenger tires, 7. tubes 7; obsolete tires 9, tubes 12. 6. Number of foreign certificates issued, none. $2.00 PER YEAR MRS. MAUDE McFARLAND IS TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Maude Newman McFar land, 56, widow of R. F. McFar land, former sheriff of Polk coun ty, died at her home on Monday evening at 6 o’clock. She had been in declining health several months. Mrs. McFarland was a native of Polk county. Surviving are five children, John W. of Detroit, Rob ert S., Clerk of Polk County Superior Court, Columbus, Mrs. Joe C. 'White of Maiden, Miss Mary Elizabeth and William “Bill” McFarland at home; her mother, Mrs. J. W. Newman, Co lumbus; two sisters, Mrs. Noah Daniel of Landrum, S. C., and Mrs. John L. Smith, Gaffney, S. C.; one brother, Ed Newman, of Columbus, and three grandchil dren. She was a member of the Co lumbus Presbyterian church. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at tKb First Baptist church in Co lumbus. Interment will be in the Presbyterian cemetery in Colum bus. The Rev. D. M. McGeachy, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dr. G. V. Tilley. BE A BOOK BUDDY A local committee for Polk County has been formed for the Victory Book Campaign. This campaign is national in scope and is sponsored by the American Red Cross, the United Service Organi zation and the American Library Association. The object of the campaign is to collect gifts of books for our soldiers, sailors and marines in forts, camps, posts, stations and ships. - Continued on Back Page „
