are building a new Home on War-

for a visit and. to inspect the
work. C. N. Sayre is the builder
and Shannon Meriwether, archi
tect.
Mrs. Spencer is a daughter of
Dr. Alexander W. Evans, pro
fessor emeritus of Botany, Yale
university, and th e family has of
ten visited Tryon.
Country Club To Hold
Annual Meeting Monday
The annual meeting of the
Tryon Country club will be held
on Monday night, February 9th,
at the club house. Three new di
meters will be elected to fill the
expired terms of B. L. Ballenger,
Baxter Haynes, and Nelson Jack
son, Jr. The new directors to be
-Acted together with six hold
jfy-s will elect the officers for
tSe coming year.
Reports will b e made by all
committees and the retiring offi
cers; after which a business
session will be held with a gener
al discussion of plans and pro
posals for the coming season. All
members are urged to be present.

Miss Rose Mary Wilson, daugh
ter of Mrs. P. T. Colbron and
Mr. Henry Coulter of Greens
burg, Pa., were married today at
high noon at the Church of the
Holy Cross. The Rector, the Rev.
Charles L. McGavern, officiated.

Meet Soldiers At Noon
All those entertaining Camp
Croft soldiers on Sunday are re
quested to meet them at the Bus
Station at 12:15 noon. A recrea
tional program will begin at
3:00 o’clock at the Parish
House to which the people are in
vited to come and take part. Mrs.
F. P. Bacon, chairman of the ladies
committee says that supper for the
soldiers will be served at 6:30 p.
m. About 40 soldiers have been
invited.
Flynns To Entertain Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Flynn who
have contributed much of their
talent and time to worthy causes
in the community will be a fea
ture of the entertainment being
provided in honor of the soldiers
at the Parish House on Sunday
afternoon at 3 o’clock.
This will probably be their last
public performance before going
away to Norfolk, Va., where Mr.
Flynn will be in charge of USO
work at the Naval center. Mrs.
Flynn was a leader in the enter
tainment of soldiers in England
during World War No. 1.
TIRE RATIONING BOARD
MEETS ONLY ON FRIDAY
At the regular meeting of the
Polk County Tire Rationing
Board on Friday, February Gth,
the first permits for the new
month were issued as fellows: To
Richard Painter of Tryon Route
1, two truck tires and two tubes;
to Broadu s Flynn, one passenger
car tire. Chairman K. A. Bowen
stated that the board will meet
only one day each week hereafter,
on Fridays at 2:30 p. m.
