Farmers Federation To
Celebrate on February 18th
Housewarming, Banquet, Gov.
Hoey to Speak, Prizes to be

Federation in Polk County on
Wednesday, February 18th, will
include a “housewarming” pro
gram in the afternoon at the new
Federation warehouse addition in
Try on, and a banquet in the eve
ning at which prizes in the Polk
County Farm Progress Contest
will be awarded.
Former Governor Clyre R. Hoey
will be the principal speaker at
the banquet which will be held
at Sunnydale, Tryon.
Others speakers will include
James G. K. MicClure, president
of the Farmers Federation; the
Rev. Dumont Clarke, religious di
rector of the Federation; and Joe
Wilson County Agent of Polk, who
supervised the contest.
Conducted for the purpose of
the farmers of the

ings, the contest has resulted in

Judges were divided into three
teams, in order that they might
inspect all the farm s of the 58
contestants.
Team (A), for Columbus town
ship. is composed of Mrs. Doro
thy Heightmann, Chas. D. Brown,
and J. H. Gibbs. Mr. Brown is
chairman.
Team (B), for Green Creek
township, is composed of Julius

Don’t Fail To Register!
Men who have attained their
20th birthday by December 31,
1941, and men who have not
reached their 45th birthday by
February 17, 1942, are required,
under heavy penalty of the law,
to register provided in
various townships in the county.
Registration places will be open
from 7 a. m., to 9 p. m., on
February 16, 1942. Men who have
already registered are not re
quired to register again.
Men may register at any of the
following places in Polk County:
Saluda, School House.
Columbus, Court House.
Mill Spring, School House.
Cooper’s Gap, Vernon Wilson’s
store.
Green Creek, School House.
Tryon, Draft Board Office in
Jackson’s store.
Any men who are unable to
report to the registration places
due to illness should advise Sheriff
Hines or the Polk County Draft
Board and arrangements will be
made to register them.
Merchants Meet Tonight
The annual meeting of the Try
on Merchants Association will be
held tonight at 8 o’clock at
Missildine’s Hall. Reports and
election of officers will feature the
meeting. R. E. Brantley is presi
dent and N. L. Wilson is secre
tary-treasurer.
Green Buys Rhyne House
The Robert Y. Rhyne house in
Columbus has been sold by F. P.
to W. S. Green. Sale made
through G. Harrison Bridgeman.
