Assistance Needed The Council of Social Agencies various organiz- that do benevolent work in Polk County,, is making an ap peal for financial support of the Helping Hand and the American Women’s Hospitals. The Helping Hand supplements the work of Polk County Public Welfare De partment in assisting chronically helpless citizens. The American Women’s Hospitals conducts all over the county pre-natal and post-natal clinics for mothers un able to afford private medical and. nursing attention. It also holds venereal disease clinics. Its work supplements that of the County Public Health Department. The county, through tax resources, cannot carry on the work of these two vitally needed organizations; and, without their assistance, real and extensive suffering would en- The organizations represent ' _>n the Council endorse the ap peal for financial help for these two societies. Gibson and Arthur S. Lynn as sanitarians for the two counties. Mr. Gibson is from Marion, N. C. and Mir. Lynn comes from Dur ham. Mr. Lynn has charge of all cases, markets, and dairies in Polk county, all tourist homes and ho tels; septic tanks, sewage disposal and everything in the sanitation field, including water supplies. $2.00 PER YEAR Rationing Board Give Permits for Tires New tires and tubes were ra tioned to the following persons by the Polk County Board cn Friday: Dock Wilson, Mill Spring, 2 tires and tubes; Home Ice and Creamery plant, 4 truck tires and tubes; Eugene Jones, 2 tires and tubes; Henry Corn, Mill Spring, 2 tires and tubes; Uel Jones of Saluda, 2 tires and tubes, Tryon Builders Supply Co., one truck tube; C. P. Rogers one tire and one tube; M. L. Shytle, Chesnee, Rt. 1, 2 truck tires and tubes; Grady Hi. Johnson, Saluda, three tires and tubes; W. J. Screven, Jr. one tire; S. L.
