desire to put on record an ex
pression of deep regret that ill
health has made necessary the
resignation of Miss Edna Calvert,
who, for the past six years, has
been Superintendent of the Hos
pital.
During this period, Miss Cal
vert has not only efficiently man
aged the Hospital but also has
exerted in this community a very
real influence. By her signal ser
vice to this institution, by her
interest in every good cause and
worthy enterprise and by her
unswerving loyalty to the Hos
pital, Miss Calvert has won and
held the respect and esteem of all
who have known her.
Within the Hospital itself, the
Superintendent has had the loyal
ty.«and affection of all the work
«f in her management
o l+%e hospital, during, these six
years, has been her ability, with
very slight change, to hold to
gether the personnel of the nurs
ing staff. Such continuity has
made a real contribution to the
good work done at the Hospital.
During Miss Calvert’s admin
istration, the general condition
of the Hospital has been greatly
improved. Among other things,
the old second-hand X ray equip
ment has been replaced by a new
machine of the latest type and the
old floors which were unsatisfact
ory have been replaced, through
out the main hall and rooms, with
battle ship linoleum,. Also, while
Miss Calvert has been Superin
tendent, a Nurses’ Home has been
given, thus releasing in the rtiain

Mrs. L. R. Jackson
M!rs. Leatha Ruff Jackson, 48,
died on Wednesday night at her
home in Sunny View section. Fu
neral services will be held on
Friday at Cooper Gap church.
The deceased is survived by her
husband, John Baxter Jackson;
two daughters, Mrs. Florence
Blanton and Miss Catherine Jack
sen; five sons: James, John Bax
ter, Jr., Hubert and Hurchell;
three brothers: Henry C. Ruff,
Jay Ruff of Gerton, and Enoch
Ruff of "Henderson county.
Basketball
The Tryon boys lost to Ellenboro
in a tournament Wednesday. The
locals put up a good fight, leading
the first quarter 7 to 6; Ellen
boro led at the half 11 to 8; and
third quarter 23 to 12, finally
winning 31 to 19. Playing for Try
on were Brock, 2; Baker, 0;
Scoggins, 4; Beatson, 4; Arledge,
7; Moore, 0; Williams, 0; Dick,

GREER HERE FRIDAY
Tryon high school will play the
Greer, S. C. high school team on
Friday night at 7:30 at the Tryon
gym. This is the last home game
of the season for Tryon High.
TOWNS FINALS 1 SATURDAY
Adams-Millis, Mills River, Try
on and Saluda community teams
will play their finals for the tro
phy on Saturday night at Tryon
gymnasium. First place will be
fought between Adams-’Millis and.
Mills River.
