GENERAL ___J. S. BLACKWELL ELECTRIC 1942 APPLIANCES Ballenger Bldg. Tryon COMMUNICATIONS Dear Mr. Vining, We feel just as though we had jumped into a bee-hive and that every bee was dressed as a sail or. There are thousands and thousands of them swarming ev erywhere, and the very air seems filled with them. They say that Norfolk is the number one hot spot in the. U.S.A. and I can well believe it. I wish *Vcould tell you something of the Jfehts we have seen, and the Things we have heard, but we are asked to keep most of them to ourselves—but I can tell you that Horace Newman, Paul Shiith, and his brother and his wife all came to see us, and we had a good old fashion homesick talk about Trycn. Horace says he wants to see his bird dog, and eat some of his mother’s hot bis cuits. He looks very well and dashing in his sailor clothes. I he English sailors are having a fine time here—but find learn ing the jitterbug, beycnd them. They stand against the walls of dancers, longing for somebody to dance the “Liverpool Lurch” with them. It is the equivalent of the jitterbug in England. The U. S. 0. clubs are doing a .wonderful job here. And they are r Acked day and night. #We have been on the go ever since we arrived. Life begins at 4 o’clock, (not forty) here—when the Liberty boats come in to Nor folk—and goes on until midnight. We visit hospitals, and sing at concerts. Lefty leads the big sing at the Navy Y.M.C.A. and there is plenty to do. We miss Tryon and all of our friends more than I can tell you. I wish you would all think of us as two lonely sailors who want letters from home. iui• ciiiu iTiis, Di r lymiy Atlantic Hotel, Norfolk, Va. Mr. and Mrs. M. B.
