ASSISTANCE NEEDED
Has your contribution yet been
made through the Council of
Social Agencies to the Helping
Hand and to the American Wo
man’s Hospitals? These contri
butions furnish the only cash
which the Public Welfare Depart
ment assisted by the Helping
Hand can use in securing needed
food, fuel and clothing for the
destitute and the only support
which the American Women’s
Hospitals has in carrying on its
pre-natal and post-natal clinics
throughout the county for.under
privileged mothers. Without your
contributions the Helping Hand
in its work and the American
Women’s Hospitals in its clinical
work, carried on throughout the
county by Dr. John Z. Preston as
sisted by Public Health nurses,
would collapse, thus resulting in
an untold amount of destitution,
suffering and probably death. What
better Home Defense work can
any one do' than to help keep a
measure of health and some de
gree of contentment among the
helpless of our own county? The
Council of Social Agencies, is
hoping to secure a total of $1,500
to keep these two vitally needed
organizations functioning and the
amount received to date is far
from the goal. Checks or sub
scriptions should be made out to
the “Polk County Council” and
mailed to Miss Mae Irene Flentye,
Treasurer, Tryon, N. C., RED No.
