Country Club Directors
Adopt Resolution On Loss
Of Beloved Vice-President *
The Board of Directors of the
Country Club, at a special
y'-.StTjng held on March 7th, 1942,
adapted the following minute as
an expression of their personal
sorrow, and on behalf of all the
members of the club.
“In the death of Edgar C.
Rowe, vice-president of the Try
on Country club, chairman of the
Grounds committee and former
chairman of the Tournament com
mittee, we feel that the club has
suffered an irreparable loss. By
his friendly and cheerful man
ner, his loynl friendship, his un
failing interest in club affairs
and his efficient discharge of ev
ery duty, he endeared himself
to us all.
We shall sorely miss his cheery
greeting, his congenial compan
ionship and his faithful co-oper
ation. His memory will ever be
dear to us. May his spirit con

Adult First Aid Classes
Tonight at 7:30 the men’s first
aid class will hold its initial .meet
ing at the Firemen’s Hall. All
men planning to take this course
are urged to be present.
On Tuesday night at 7:30,
classes for men and women will
begin, with the meetings being
held at Missildine’s hall.

Beta Club Delegates Return
From State Convention
At the seventh annual North
Carolina Beta club convention
held in Raleigh over the weekend,
Miss Elizabeth Anne Vjining of
Tryon, was elected vice president.
The Beta club organization is
a national high school scholarship
leadership-service club with 214
chapters in North Carolina. More
than 700 delegates attended this
convention.
Other officers elected were Wal
ter Foil Brinkley of Lexington,
N. C., president; and Frederica
Wadsworth of Clarkton, N.' C.,
secretary.
Tryon representation at the
convention were Jane Meriwether,
president of the local chapter;
Dot Millikin, local secretary; Miss
Anne Sevier, sponsor and Jean
Brantley, Holland Brady, Claudia
Helms, Dick Arthur and Elizabeth
Anne Vining.
RED CROSS WORK
ROOM REPORT
Women of Tryon, don’t let your
war efforts dwindle! The atten
dance at the Red Cross Work
Room needs stepping up, and
enough materials and yarn have
come in to keep us busy. In order
to conserve fuel and electricity
the work will still be concentrated
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays, but there is need for
more workers, both on simple bast,
ing and on machine work and on
knitting. There are boys’ shirts
and convalescent robes in process
of making, and the following to
tal of garments has already been
completed since the Red Cross
