In realizing a sum that repre
over sixteen times the quo

all communities throughout the
country whose quota was oversub
scribed. The following letter to
Mrs. Harman B. Vanderhoef will
be of interest to all those who
contributed to United China Re
lief:

“You will be interested to know
that in obtaining 643.9% of your
quota, you and your committee
have done the No. 1 job in the
Unites States in respect to over
subscribing your quota. You will
be sent a True Friend of China
certificate as a token of your ap
preciation.

HELMS AT ROTARY
M. R. McCown will have charge
of the Tryon Rotary club pro
gram on Friday at 1 p. m., at
Sunnydale. Town Manager C. H.
Helms, who attended the Civilian
Defense meeting in Asheville
which was addressed by Dr. Albert
Coates of the Institute of Gov
ernment. will give a talk on the
results of the meeting.

The weather on Wednesday was
59 low and 90 high, good old hot
weather for swimming and crop
growing.But think of that

esting talk at the Tryon Kiwanis
club Tuesday and showed the
value of electricity to the farmer,
how it is making life on the farm
easier, happier and more profit
able. He said that a farmer doing
work by hand that could be done
by electricity is working for less
than a cent an hour .... One of
the cleverest announcements ever
received in Tryon is that from
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Marsh who
