C.', June 11.—Vic tory Day celebration in each of the 100-counties of North Carolina is.the goal -of the State Office of |fP|lian Defense. Ooen Douglas, State OCD direc tor, said today that in accordance with Governor Broughton’s pro clamation of the Fourth of July as VICTORY DAY, he was urg ing chairmen of Civilian Defense in all 100 counties to proceed im mediately with the organization of suitable VICTORY DAY pro grams which would, bring about a demonstration of the scope of the volunteers organized for home front defense. 1 regard as most iortunate this opportunity to combine patriotic celebration of the birthdate of our independence with recognition of the vast army enlisted in home front protection and of parents of men and women now on duty with our armed services,” said Douglas in announcing that in a number of «es the Civilian Defense or zation was planning, a parade he morning of the Fourth of of July immediately preceding Town Meetings and the meetings would be followed by picnics or barbecues. Douglas said the idea was popu lar because of limitations on travel that would prevent many people from making customary Fourth of July excursions an^ would give them something to do at home. The American Legion and other patriotic and civic organizations will join the Civilian Defense or ganization in participation. The observance in different counties will be fitted to local conditifns rather than to a uniform program for the entire state. ~ •_ CURB REPORTER The weather on Wednesday was 70 low, 84 high; rain. 62 ....
