TRYON BOYS’ CLUB
ENDS SUMMER’S WORK
With an interesting commence
ment program held in the audi
torium of the Tryon high school,
the Tryon Boys’ club ended its
Eighth Annual Session on Friday,
July 31st. Dr. George Farrand
Taylor!, chief speaker on the pro
gram gave a talk on the importance
of boys making the most of their
opportunities and being ready,
physically, mentally and morally
for emergencies of life. About ten
members of the club gave dem
onstrations on first aid, others
gave talks on bird study, cooking,
weaving, airplane modeling, and
different phases of the work dur
ing the summer.
Group No. 3, under the leader
ship of Donald Arledge, obtained
the greatest number of points,
thereby winning the plaque for
1942. Mac Albrecht was award
ed the cup by popular vote as
being the boy who stood out as a,
representative of the ideals whicb^
the club had stood for during the
past eight years. A hotly contest
ed softball game ended the session
for the summer with the entire
group anxious for the work to
continue next year.
KIWANIS TUESDAY
Fred Swann, Jr., will be in
charge of the Tryon Kiwanis pro
gram on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at
Oak Hall hotel.
BIBLE CLASS MONDAY
The Forward Bible class of the
Tryon i*resbytetian church will
meet Monday evening at 8 o’clock
with Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Hen
derson.
