Many Ratings Still
Available In Navy
Charlotte, N. C., Aug. 13.—Many
ratings still remain open in the
general service of the Naval Re
serve for skilled tradesmen F. M.
Furr, Chief Petty Officer in charge,
of the Charlotte Navy Recruiting
Station announced today.
This branch of the Navy does
not cover the “Seabee”, construc
tion workers, and is for general
assignment Chief Furr said.
There is a need for bakers, car
penters, electricians, h o s p i tal
corpsmen, machinist workers,
painters, radiomen, cooks and
many others. Men who are skilled
in the above trades can enlist
with petty officer ratings and
serve their country at the same
time.
Those applying for ratings must
have three letters of reference
covering their line of work and
pass the preliminary examinations
given at the Charlotte station.
Men between the ages of 21 and 50
are eligible for these openings and
those married must have their
wife’s consent.
ON ACCREDITED LIST
A letter has just been received
by Dr W. E. Sawyer, County
Superintendent of Schools that the
Mill Spring school has met all the
requirements for accreditment and
has been placed upon the accredit
ed list in Group 11, Class B. This
is the highest rating that a school
having an eight month term can
, receive. The letter containing this
information was from Dr. J. Henry
Highsmith, Director Division of
Instructional Service, Raleigh.
