A Remarkable Reunion
After nearly 25 years’ separa
tion, three World War veterans
met the other day in Tryon. At
tempting to find someone who
(|Hh.ys chess, Henry Reich, Jr.,
^cently inserted an ad in the
Bulletin. Through this ad he met
Captain M. A. Bryan.
These two Legionaires found
, they had many friends in common.
In reminiscing, Capt. Bryan men
tioned the name of Col. Burkhead,
who is also a Tryonite. Reich im
mediately recalled Col. Burkhead,
who as a captain, was his com
manding officer overseas.
The. following day, while down
town with his father, Reich met
Coll. Burkhead in person and
recognized him at once. Col. Burk
head, Capt. Bryant and Private
Reich had quite a reunion, talk
ing over old times and recalling
many war-time incidents when
they soldiered together in Toul,
France.

and luxuries for his use and
comfort. Tryon is asked to make
and fill at least two hundred of
the kits, the cost of each one com
plete is one dollar. How many

The people of the Erskine Me
morial church may make their
contributions through Mrs. Nelson
Jackson, Jr., or direct to the Red
Cross.
Prof, and Mrs. J. J. Brooks
have returned to Atlanta after
a visit with Prof, and Mrs. James
Brooks at Landrum.
Joint Rotary-Kiwanis
Meeting Here Friday
A joint meeting of the Tryon
Rotary and Kiwanis clubs will be
held Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunny
dale when Julian B. Hester,
chairman of the Polk County War
Bond and Stamp Campaign will
be in charge of the program. In
teresting motion pictures of local
and national significance will be
shown.
SURGICAL DRESSINGS
The Surgical Dressing Room of
the local Red Cross chapter will
open Friday morning at 9:30 at
the Parish House. There is an
urgent need for bandages for ou'*'
armed forces, and it is hoped that
every woman in Tryon will do
her part to help fill the quota as
signed to this Chapter.
Mrs. B. B. Turck is chairman
of the committee, and has several
trained assistants who will gladly
show you how to make the 4 inch
by 8 inch sponges that are re
quired now fi*om.the Polk County
Chapter.
Please wear wash dresses. Veils
will be available at the Red Cross
Work Rooms. These rooms will be
open every day Monday through
Friday, from 9:30 to 1.

Ensign and Mrs. Rufus Zog
baum, Jr., of Pensacola, Fla., have
been visiting relatives here for
several days.
