First Tire Theft In County Reported Sheriff Hines states Thursday afternoon that he and Chief of Police Claude Scoggins had arrest ed Wallace Sanders, and Clarence McElwee, and had charged them with theft of tires and other ac cessories. Mr. Hines stated that Wallace Sanders broke into the Standard Esso Station, operated by Les Barnett and took away three tires. The theft of the tires was on Wed nesday night. The negroes were arrested Thursday morning. Sheriff Hines said that when he went to the home of Sanders he found the stolen tires under his bed, in which he (Sanders) and McElwee used. Mr. Hines said that a battery was also recovered that had been stolen from the filling station. It was in the car operated by McEl wee when recovered. A representative of the Asheville field office of the Social Security Board will be at the office of the Town of Tryon, Tryon, N. C., on Tuesday, August-25th, 11 a. m. Wage earners who have worked in a job covered by the Social Security Act since December 31, 1936, and have attained age 65, may be eligible to file claim for themselves, their wives, or minor children, whether they have an account number or not. Surviving relatives of deceased workers, such as widows, children, or parents, or if none of the above, persons who have paid funeral expenses, may be eligible to file claim.
