Caswell To Lecture At School of Religion /3sfce Rev. Wilbur L. Caswell i lecture this year at the one week session of the Inter-Church School of Religion. Mr. Caswell is well known in Trvon where he has spoken before various civic clubs on questions of the day and also before the Woman’s Auxil iary of the Episcopal church in a District Meeting at Edneyville. It was his speech which fired the work for the soldiers from Polk county which the Home Friendly club has been doing. Mr. Caswell is a musician of no mean attain ments and his lectures accompan ied by illustrative playing to make the points of his lectures plain has been a source of enter tainment to many. Mr. Caswell was once assistant rector of St. Thomas’s church, New York City; Rector of St. Thomas’ church, ^aaroneck and now is Rector IBSt. Paul’s church, Yonkers. He was in demand as summer preach er at such places as Onteora, New York and other summer colonies. Those jwho read The Churchman know his column in that paper signed by the pseudonyn “Percy Sylvester Malone” in which he pokes sly fun at ministers and oddities of church people and by his humor corrects many little outlooks which might become dis astrously prevalent in the church. Mr. Caswell achieved some little fame last summer when a copy of The Tryon Daily Bulletin reached a camp at Brewster, New York, revealing that he had on his 59th birthday walked from his home in Yonkers up to the Y. Air mail letter received today by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fortner from Frank Wall now with the U. S. Marines on Guadalcanal Island.-It was written Slept. 8 while he was in the hospital recovering from a shrapnel wound. He said for them not to worry as the doctor was not going to cut the shrapnel out as it wasn’t considered serious. He writes “Like it fine except for the heat and rain. Don’t know who causes us more trouble, the Japs or ants. I got a good collec tion of Bulletins with your let ters and am almost up on all the news. The last One was July—but what of it. It’s still news to me; and I did enjoy reading them very much. Bill Ward is here with me. He was down to see me the other day. P. S.—September 11. I am out of the hospital now. I haven’t had a chance to mail this letter but will try today.” The letter left Sblomon Islands September 12th.The Piedmont Boy Scout Council executive board meets tonight at 7:15 at Hotel Charles in Shelby .... Plans are underway to re-open the Pacolet Knitting Mill at Lynn for manu facture of defense yarns, accord ing to press reports. C. O. Story is owner of the mill.
