George W. .Comer is chairman. All Democratic leaders are expected to be present to make plans for the coming election .... The Rev. Wilbur Caswell has started some thing. Most ministers-preach on the old or new testaments, but he r^feks on the part in between the cr^/testaments which is not found in the average family Bible. He had a large audience Sunday night at the Methodist church; and will speak every night this week at 7:30 at the Tryon First Baptist church. Christians listened to some things they had never heard before, lie speaks on the Apocrypha, a Greek word meaning hidden or spurious. All those peo ple who have a lot of curiosity or desire for learning something new or different, will enjoy the lec tures at the Baptist church. They call it a School of Religion, but if the speaker sticks to the Apocrapha there will be more in terest than found in school. Dudley Smith Resigns Ration Board to Enter Army Chairman of Civilian Defense Chas. J. Lynch, has announced with regret the resignation of Dudley C. Smith as chairman of the War Price and Rationing Board. Mr. Smith has volunteered for Army se/vice abroad and will receive a commission as major. He has been ordered to report to the West Coast. He leaves Tryon Wednesday. Major Smith was a first lieutenant in World War 1. He is a graduate of the Univer sity of Wisconsin. Since coming to Tryon about ten years ago *he has taken an active part in civic affairs as well as make an outstanding "record in the poultry business. He has served as secre tary and director of ^he Rotary club, chairman of St. Luke’s Hos pital association, treasurer of the Horse Show and a leader in other activities. Civilian Defense Chair man Lynch has named Harmon B. Van derhoef to succeed Major Smith as chairman of the War Price and Rationing Board. Mr. Vanderhoef who also has been a leader in various civic affairs since coming to Tryon, has been serving on the Rationing Board for some time. Congressman Bulwinkle Here Wednesday . Congressman A. L. Bulwinkle of Gastonia, who will be the Con gressman of the new 11th district of which Polk County is a part, will speak Wednesday night at 8 o’clock at the court house in Columbus.
