UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS* MARCH 3 1879 THE n\W DULY MILEM The World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper, Seth M. Vininy, Editor. Vol. 15. Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N. C„ SATURDAY. DEC. 5, 1942 Mrs. Banning At Lanier Club Our distinguished townswoman, Mrs. Margaret Culkin Banning, spoke to a large and enthusiastic alienee at the library on Thurs < i^^Her subject was the Present '^nwWsh Mood, and nothing could have been more timely or more illuminating. Recent utterances in the press and on the air need to be firmly contradicted by those who KNOW what Great Britain has done and is still doing to stem the tide of barbarism. This week has been “expressly British’' for Tryon; starting with Winston Churchill’s stirring speech on Sunday, which expressed the mind and will of the Nation, and followed by the moving scenes from Mrs. Miniver, which demonstrated the spirit of British home life and the indomit able courage of the English people. Mrs. Banning’s discussion made a fitting climax, presenting a vivid and intelligent picture of the en tire British scene and showing J:rue relationship to our great one hearing this comprehen sive talk could fail to be convinc ed that our alliance is a true and logical one; that the fortunes of war and the fruits of victory de pend upon it; and, most important of all, that there can be no lasting peace in the world of nations that does not include the permanence of the British Commonwealth and our alliance with it.—Contributed.
