BAPTISTS Vs. METHODISTS
The City Basketball League will
open its season Tuesday night at
7:30 with the Baptist and Metho
dist team playing the first game,
followed by the Town Team vs.
Country club at 8:30. All games
must start on time. The teams will
be composed of the following:.
Baptist: Jack Melton, Tom Mel
ton, Babe Brock, Ed Beatson, Tom
Cooksey, Allison Martin, Paul
Butler.
Methodist: Dick Blanchard,
Clarence Scoggins, Phil Morris,

First Tryon Merchant
Called To Army
William Marshall Ballew, owner
and manager of Ballew’s Grocery
since 1934, when he succeeded
his father,, the late T. W. Ballew,
reported for duty with the U. S.
Army at Ft. Bragg on December
12th. He was inducted at Camp
Croft, December 7th.
Mr. Ballew was the first Tryon
merchant called to the colors. He
is a graduate of the Tryon high
school and studied two years at
Furman university; he has been
a member of the fire department
for 14 years; a member of the
Merchants association; the Coun
try club; chamber of commerce and
former town councilman.
COURT OF HONOR
The Boy Scout Court of Honor
will meet Tuesday at 7:30 at the
Tryon school. Public invited.
Kiwanis club will meet Tuesday
at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. J. A.
Wilson in charge of the program.
