There’s a light shining just
around the corner of the week,
and it will soon be shining here.
The Christmas light. The light
in the eyes of a child on Christ
mas morning, as it fondly holds
a longed for toy. The gleam of
a star on a Christmas tree, a
little sprawling pine, a soft cedar
or a magnificent spruce. A candle
burning in a window, a tiny cabin
window tucked back in the hills
or a window in a city mansion.
The chuckling light of a Yule log
as cheerful glowing coals fall and
start a new blaze. And yes,
Christmas is a love, the love of
a Father for his wayward chil
dren as expressed in the Babe of
Bethlehem. And Christmas is a
life, a tiny bit of His life spill
ing into our own and making us
a bit kinder and finer. The en
slavers of mankind hate Christ
mas because they hate Him, but
they can’t take it from us. That
is what we are fighting for, to
make the world safe for decent
things like Christmas.
