Collins of Tryon, says, “The people here speak either French or Italian, and they dress just like y*u have seen them in the National Geographic maga zine.” Lee formerly lived in Land rum. He trained in Oklahoma as a machine gunner in the air corps and is now in French Morocco. His letter was dated November 24th, and wished his mother a Merry Christmas. It arrived here < December 24th, just in time to de liver his message .... Sgt. Ralph J. Metcalf has been transferred to the Air Field at St. Simons Is land, Ga.Lieut. Nelson Jackson, III, has been transferred from Camp Wolters, Tex., to Phoenix, Ariz., the Montgomery Whalings are getting theirs at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Of I those reported on December 26th, the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., was third in North Carolina, but the three in North Carolina lead the nation. Rocky Point bank had sold 39.9 per cent of its deposits, the Bank of Wayne at Goldsboro, 39.3 and the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., 35.8. The Coldwater, Mich., bank had 28.6 per cent. President Julian B. Hester of the Tryon Bank is chairman of the Polk County War Bond committee and a member of the district Victory Loan committee.
