C., MONDAY, AUG. 9, 1943 Tryon District Schools to Open September 1st The Tryon District Schools, ffcposed of Tryon, Lynn, and |on Negro school, will open on ednesday, September 1st, for the 1943-44 session. Due to the smaller allotment of white teach ers, Lynn will operate only the First, Stecond and Third grades, with the pupils in the other grades transferring to the Tryon school. The Tryon high school will offer a course in physics in compliance with the war program, urging schools to give physics, chemistry, and mathematics for pre-induction training. The physics course will emphasize electricity, radio, aero dynamics, navigation and meter oiogy. I The business course will again offer typing, bookkeeping, and shorthand. All commercial stu dents are urged to take bookkeep #and shorthand along with hg. At present an insufficient number have registered for book keeping and shorthand and pupils are urged, to consider the need for these important subjects. These subjects will not have any commercial fees. Students, with the exception of First grade pupils, are asked to register at the superintendent’s office on Tuesday, August 31st, from 10 to 12 noon, for classifi cation. First grade pupils are re quired by North Carolina state law to be Schick tested for diph theria and are also requested to take the smallpox vaccination.
