Point Free—IF Since it is now hog-killing time over most of the south, OPA has again repeated the regulations un der which a farmer may use the meat which he owns, after it is slaughtered, without exchanging rationing points. Meat produced by a farmer who lives on his farm can, of course, be consumed by members of his household, point free. If a person who operates a farm but does not live on it, may still receive the meat for consumption by his household point free if: 1. He supervised the raising of that meat by visiting the farm at least one-third of the days the animals were being raised, or 2. He purchased the animal at least 60 days before slaughter and visited the farm at least' one-third of the days during this period to supervise the raising of the animal. SALUDA NEWS A fire that caused the destruc tion of a large part of the stock of groceries*, etc., as well as coun ters and the cash register, of Johnny Gordon’s store, occurred on Sunday night. Night Policeman A. H. Hipp, discovered the fire at 1:30 o’clock and called the fire department. The smoke was so dense that it was difficult to as certain where the fire started. It was quickly extinguished with comparatively small damage to the store building. A part of the floor was burned and the ceiling badly scorched but no damage was done to the second story and^k contents. Water and smoke ru^H much of the stock on which a small insurance was carried. The build ing belongs to the. Sonner estate, Mr. Gordon has occupied it only a short time, succeeding Q. C. Son ner & Co. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Arthur and sons, Dick and Donnie, of Char lotte, visited relatives in Saluda last week. Helps to balance the diet.
