Cooksey, co-pilot of a bomber which was forced to leave the squadron last June 12 over France. The pilot of the ship has just wired his mother that he himself was safe. As the ship left th» squadron under its own power it is hoped that Lieut. Cooksey is also safe and that his family will hear soon from him . . . Dr. Geo. Farrand Taylor' will lead the prayer service for the armed forces Saturday morning at 11 / o’clock at Tryon Theatre . . . . Town of Tryon put in two new pieces of. machinery at the Water Works and sent off a specimen of & water to the State Board of th, Raleigh. Report comes that the Town water is per fect .... Otis Constant, who li^es out of the city limits and not able to get Tryon water, has just completed a 65 foot well which he dug without the help of anyone. As the well got deeper he built a ladder to reach the bottom .... War news better! Americans about 50 miles from Paris. Presi dent Roosevelt has just returned from Honolulu where he conferred with General Mac Arthur and Ad miral Nimitz on new plans to eliminate the Japs who are already on the run in most places . . . . A. W. Barr. At 11 a. m., Supt. A. C. Gibbs, of Asheyille will preach and hold forth quarterly conference. At 3 p. m., Memorial services will be held for Marion Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burley Wil liams, who was reported missing in action following the sinking of his ship near Sicily, July 10th, 1943, and who is now officially listed as dead. At 7:30 p. m. The choir of St. Luke’s Colored Methodist Episco pal church will lead the singing. The address of the evening will be made by Mrs. Jessie Daniel Ames, a former director of the inter racial commission, who now has a home in Tryon. The white Methodists and colored Methodists have cooperated with each other since the formation of the colored church in 1870. Although meeting in separate churches the leaders have always sought to promote good will and through the years have cooperated on certain pro jects. The offering Sunday night will go to the support of Payne college, an institution of higher learning for Negroes at Augusta, Georgia.
