Miss Ruby Bran non of Tryon Route 1, has been promoted to second lieutenant with the WACS at Moore General Hos pital. She and another candidate graduated from the Physio Ther apy Department Sunday morning at 10:15. Among those present at the service from Tryon was Mrs. Rachel Slocumb, an expert in the Occupational Therapy Department. Lieut. Brannon is at home for 10 days leave before going to her assignment at Camp1 Shelby, Miss. .... Mrs. Evelyn Jennings Lav ender has entered Battle Hill San atorium, Southwest, Atlanta, Ga., to take training for practical nursing'. . . . Bessie Jane Wilson, fog^rear-old daughter of Mr. and *&|HfD. B. Wilson of Mill Spring h&sjust bought her sixth War Bond in the 6th War Bond loan campaign. She bought all her bonds with pennies saved over long periods of time. It took 1,875 pennies to buy the new bond, but the bond will return to her 2.500 pennies or $26 . . . Lewis Lindsey of the Tryon Police Force, has re signed to accept a job with the Standard Oil Co. . . . The first croup o ’ pictures of Polk County men in the service will be shown this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Tryon Theatre, and each week *or ten weeks on Wed nesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. ^Pictures of the local service men * ■Continued on Back Paco Community Thanksgiving Service, Thursday at 10 The Tryon Union Thanksgiving service will be held Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at the Epis copal Church of the Holy Cross. The Thanksgiving sermon, “Our Country”, will be preached by the Rev. T. P. Horger, pastor of the Tryon Presbyterian church. Tryon churches participating in the service are the First Baptist Methodist, Presbyterian, Congre gational and the Episcopal. All the ministers of these churches will-have a part in the service. A feature of the program will be two anthems sung by a com bined choir of 50 voices from the five churches under the direction of Dr. R. A. Laslett Smith. Christian Science Society Thanksgiving Service The Christian Science Society will hold its regular Thanksgiving serviee Thursday morning at 11 o’clock at the Lanier library. The subject will be “Thanksgiving.” Stores Open Wednesday As the stores of Tryon will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving the stores of Tryon will not take their half holiday this Wednesday. LIBRARY CLOSED The Lanier library will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving as usual. Books due on that day will be renewed as of Nov. 25th, says Miss Carpenter the librarian.
