Dr. McClure At Kiwanis
Dr. James G. K. McClure, presi
dent of the Farmers Federation,
will be the guest speaker at the
Tryon Kiwanis club on Tuesday at
1 p. m., at Oak Hall. He will dis
cuss the freezer locker program.

PRISONER OF WAR
Mrs. Maggie Guffey of Colum
bus, has received word that her
son, Tech. Sgt. John L. Justice, is
a prisoner of war in Germany. His
wife, Pvt. Louise Justice of Camp
Walters, Texas, was previously np
tified that he was missing in ac
tion Dec. 17th in Germany.
Sgt. Justice entered the service
in early 1940 and received his basic
training at Columbia, S. C. For
the past three years was an in
structor at Camp Walters, Tex.,
Camp Hood, Tex., and Camp
Blanding, Fla. He was sent over
seas last October after receiving
final training at Camp Atterbury,
Indiana.
Sgt. Justice was a member of
the 424th Infantry of the 106th
Division of which two regiments
were severely reported mauled dur
ing the Allied reverses of last
December, on the Western front.
Promoted to First Lieutenant
Pecos Army Air Field, Pecos,
Texas.—First Lieutenant George
D. Cooksey, Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. George D. Cooksey, Sr., of
Tryon, N. C., has been promoted
to his present rank from second
lieutenant at the Pecos Army Air
Field where he is stationed, accord
ing to an announcement by Col
onel Harold D. Smith, commanding
officer of the post.
