Mrs. Rufus Zogbaum, Sr., of Tryon, who speaks five languages, and has travelled con siderably over the world, has been given a position to attend the world peace conference . . . Zach Netherton will be in charge of the Kiwanis club program Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall hotel . . . . Calvin Wall, of the U. S. Marines, is home on leave while enroute 3ip Parris Island, S. C., to New fer, N. C. His brother, Cpl. Frank Wall, is still at Parris Island.The April 2 issue of Time Magazine has an inter esting article on the work of Smith Davis, the co-partner of William Townes, who recently bought the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. The papers have shown great improve ment already in news content, and typography. Mr. and Mrs. Townes were quests in Tryon while the preliminaries of the sale were be ing made. Time said of Mr. Davis, who bought the Spartanburg papers for $750,000 that he had found in William Townes, 35, an able voung newspaper man to go partners with and do the editing. , - Continued on Back Page _ DR. TAYLOR GUEST ! SPEAKER TO TEACHERS Dr. George F. Taylor will be the guest speaker at the dinner meeting of the Tryon-Saluda teach ers at Hotel Tryon tonight. FIRE SIREN TO SOUND AT NOON SATURDAY The new Tryon fire siren will be tested every Saturday at noon as a precaution to see if it is in good order. A test made several days ago indicated that the new siren would be loud enough to signal all the volunteer firemen within the city limits. REGISTER SATURDAY | Saturday is the first day for all friends of the Tryon School Dis trict to register if they want to vote in the coming school election. Scouts To Collect Paper And Clothing Saturday Assistant Scoutmaster Nelson •Tackson, 3rd, and a crew of Boy Scouts of Tryon, and Rev.
