UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 THE CHIEF DIED (f THURSDAY President Franklin D. Roose velt died unexpectedly at his Warm Springs, Ga. home on Thursday at 4:35 p. m. of a cerebral hemorrhage. ....The President was comman der-in-chief of the army and navy as well as head of execu tive department. ‘ Vice-President.. Harry.. S. Truman has succeeded him as the 32nd.. president... Things will go on as heretofore until victory is won according to all officials. All Allied nations have sent messages of deep ^^ling at the loss to the en world of a great states man and humanitarian. Memorial Services Here Saturday ....Memorial services for the President will be held at 10:30 a. m. at Tryon Theater con ducted by the ministers of Tryon. Mayor F. P. Bacon will preside. The., chief., address to be made by Senator Carroll P. Rogers. Boy Scouts, Pu pils from school and others to take part. Public invited. CURB REPORTER Weather 'Thursday: high 82, low 57 The entire Allied world was shocked over the sudden death of Mr. Roosevelt. American flags are flying at half mast in Tryon. Church bejls in Tryon will toll Saturday morning at 10:25, five minutes before the community ser vice at the Theatre. The stores on Trade street will close for one hour during the memorial service. Boy Scouts will blow taps during the actual funeral period in Wash ington. Mr. Ressevelt was the honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America. Miss Mary Gamble, director of the Tryon School glee club will sing a solo Saturday morning at the memorial service for presi dent Roosevelt at Tryon Theater. A Church Service The services at the Church of the Holy Cross this Sunday will be appropriate for these days of national and international crisis. The Rt. Rev. Frank Hale Touret, D. D., will preach at the 11 a .m. service. Cowan for Commissioner John W. Cowan, Tryon merchant has filed his name as a candidate for one of the three places on the Town council. This is the first pub lic announcement. Although the Bulletin had been informed that all members of the present coun cil including the mayor, would be registered to succeed themselves.
