SALUDA NEWS NOTES ^ The last meeting of the Saluda Book club, 1944-45, was held at the residence of Mrs. Dan Pace on Friday, instead of the fourth Tuesday of the month, as is the usual custom. The change being made in honor of the president, Mrs. Floyd Kimball, who was cele brating her 25th wedding anniver sary on this date. Beautiful cor sage bouquets had been prepared for the occasion for those among the members who had been married 25 years, more or less and the first was given to Mrs. Kimball. A bouquet was also presented to Miss R. E. Blair, who as the first president of the club at its organ ization some 20 years ago, was entitled to the honor of being the oldest member in point of interest of the club. Mrs. C. M. Williams, of Seabring, Fla., added much to the enjoyment of the occasion by suggesting some games in which all took part. Delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. A. M. Owings of Newberry, S. C., has rented the Dennis house on Greenville street through L. L. Clippard. The Spartanburg Baby hospital will open on June 1. Mrs. Robert Pacelli of Spartanburg will be in charge. Mrs. G. E. Kirby, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Grady, in Laurens, S. C., will spend a short time with another sister, Miss Sally Ezell, in Spartanburg before returning to Saluda. Miss Elizabeth Hipp is spending her vacation in Saluda, after a short visit to relatives in Green ville, S. C. The commencement exercises will take place on Friday, May 25 at 8 p. m., at the school audi torium. (The address will be given by Rev. George F. Taylor of Tryon. There are 19 graduates: Allen Rhoads Ashley, Alvin York Bell, Mary Edith Bell, Martha Mat thews Coates, Mary Hazel Guice, Charity Juanita Henderson, Wil lis Luther Holbert, Lloyd Andrew Jackson, Onetta Stelts Jones, Mary Lee Laughter, Max Eugene Pace, Mildred Eugenia Pearson, Clyde Clarence Rhodes, R y a 1 George Seay, Betty Anna Thomp son, Mary Frances Thompson, Charles Lafayette Ward. M^r. and Mrs. G. L. Thompson and Miss Betty Jo Thompson, who have been spending the winter in Savannah, have returned to their home in Saluda. Clarence Pace, of Switch No. 1, is seriously ill with pneumonia at the Pattotn Memorial hospital in Hendersonville. Dr. Smith’s baby hospital will be opened as usual in June; Miss v Hattie Staton, who has been Dr. Smith’s private secretary for sev eral years, who has been ill with pneumonia during the winter will resume her duties at the hospital as usual. Mrs. Ila Gilbert has retui1!^ from the Hendersonville hospital and has gone t othe Rutherfordton hospital for further treatment. The Junior and Senior classes of the Saluda High School had a fine camping trip at Lake Summit under the supervision of Mrs. J. T. Coates on Friday and Satur day of last week.
