C, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6, 1945 5c PER COPY CURB REPORTER Weather Tuesday : high 80, low 44 Tuesday was Dairy Day in Polk County and the Kiwanis, Rotary and Chamber of Commerce took part in a program that emphasiz ed the importance of the dairy to the progress of the human race and especially to Polk county and North Carolina. The program was broadcast over the radio from sta tion WSPA, Spartanburg, who sent its farm director, Cliff Gray, and engineer to Oak Hall to put the program on the air. Managing Editor Vernon Foster of the Spar tanburg Herald and Jim Morgan, staff artist of the Herald were 4"1 xrjnt to cover the meeting. To Herald has a front page news story by Editor Foster, illus trated with, drawings by Mr. Mor gan ; and the editorial page car ries an editorial of Congratula tions for the Kiwanis, Rotary and Chamber of Commerce; and to Mayor F. P. Bacon and James R. Trowbridge for starting a local program to furnish 25 calves to 4-H club boys in Polk County, in an effort to increase the farm wealth of the County and to edu cate the young people as to the importance of the cow on the farm. Quoting Buyer’s, Dairy, County Agent J. A. Wilson who had charge of the program stated that two thirds of the milk distributed in Tryon was brought in from the Covtiwiied ov Rrtrlc Page Dr. Preston Leads Wild Life Discussion in Polk County Dr. John Z. Preston and Repre sentative W. H. McDonald, and others interested in fishing and hunting are trying to form Wild life organization in Polk County. At Mill Spring school house at 9 p. m. on June 11th, Dr. Ross O. Stevens, professor of Zoology in charge of Wildlife Management, North Carolina State Colllege, and formerly Biologist N. C. Div. of game and inland fisheries, and for the summer months Executive Secretary of North Carolina Wild life Federation, will make a talk and assist in forming a Polk Co. chapter of the Wildlife Federa tion. All farmers, fishermen, hunters, and others interested in Wildlife conservation are invited to attend and to join the organization. Eargle To Build Ice Plant Sometime This Fall C. M. Eargle of the Home Ice Plant, states that he has received priorities to build a new ice plant for this area. Mr. Eargle states that he has already purchased the machinery and equipment, and that work on the plant will begin this fall as* soon as the summer sea son is over in order not to interfere with the regular demands of customers during hot weather. The new plant will be all electric and completely automatic. The new outfit will increase the capa city to 14 tons «and give quicker freezing.. Most Important Animal Is The Cow, Says Specialist
