COLUMBUS NEWS An efficient road crew has been at work on our main highways and on the streets in Columbus. All have a new top coat and seem to be in fine shape. Rev. and Mrs. Homer Brady returned last Saturday from a vacation spent in Florida. They enjoyed their week off immensely, but for all that they were glad to get back to Columbus and Landrum. Mrs. Donald Jones and daugh ter, Donna Grace, Miss Mary Earl Ashley and Gary Ormand have returned from Newport News, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ormand. Mrs. J. M. Hodge spent a few days last week with relatives here. Mrs. Barron White and son, Barry, left Saturday for Raleigh where they will join Mr. White and make their home lor tne present. Frank Burgess and Kay Wilson both working in New York, have written their home folk that they were lucky enough to see General “Ike” Eisenhower in person the day he arrived in New York. Archie Feagan, Mrs. R. T. Loy and Bobby Loy returned last Fri day to Harrington, Delaware and Culpeper, Virginia, after a few days with the home folk. H. E. Walker of Georgetown, S. C., spent the week-end with his family here. Mrs. Frank Bishop, Frank, Jr., and Mrs. Elizabeth M. Swain were guests of Mrs. Joe White at Maid en, N. C., last week. Mrs. Bishop and son have returned, while Mrs. Swain is making a longer visit to her sister. Miss Vallie Rae Ashley of the Mary Black hospital, made a short visit to her home Sunday. Mrs. Dorothy Gilbert Shives and children of Newport News, Va., are spending a few days with Mrs. Shives’ parents, Mr. and Mrs Grayson Gilbert. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wilson and Larry left Wednesday morning for Berea, Ky., where they will attend the graduating exercises of the Twelfth grade. Their son, J. Alvin, is a member of this class. After graduation he is returning to Columbus with his parents and will be here until school opens in the fall. Allen Ormand is home on a furlough with his parents, Mr and Mrs. J. F. Ormand. Curtis Arledge arrived last week. He has been in the Euro pean theatre and is home on a 30-day furlough. Cpl. Clyde Ramsey is home for a few days from Athens, Ga.. whei’e he is stationed. Dean Cloud returned this week to Aberdeen, Md. He had been home with the L. H. Clouds for a few days’ visit. Miss Eunice Cloud has return ed from Troy, N. C., where she assisted with Bible school. Mrs. Pete Lowe recently chased the Dr. Tilley house, ed in Denton Spring Park Mir. and Mrs. Grover Hutcherson are moving this week into the E. B. Cloud house on Peak street Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Edwards, Jr., have returned from their va cation in Cincinnati with Mr. Ed wards’ sister, Mrs. Lola Mull. The weekly prayer services for the men and women in the Armed Forces will be held Monday after noon at 4:30 at the Home Friendly club room. Capt. David Cromer has left for Blue Ridge School for Boys in Hendersonville, N, C., for six weeks, where he will be an in structor in English. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Rawing and children, C. B., Jr., and Pat^^ of Lincolnton are visiting Rawington’s sister, Mrs. Owen and Dr. Owen. Mrs. John L. Edwards and son, Danny, have returned from a visit with relatives at Reynolds, Ga. Lieut, and Mrs. Richard Du Rant are here for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. R. S. DuRant.
