UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879__ Packages May Be Mailed All Year Round to Navy, Marine and Coast Guard Overseas gift packages for the i’-'Hing men of the Navy, Coast Cl and Marines may be mailed a "llyear around, Rear Admiral Jules James, USN, Commandant of the Sixth Naval District and Charleston Navy Yard, reminded families and friends of the fight ing men today. There is no deadline by which Christmas mail must be posted, but the Navy urges packages be mailed now to insure delivery by Christmas since the fleet is oper ating miles beyond the Fleet Post Cffi.ee, San Francisco. Gift packages must not be over five pounds in weight, nor more than 15 inches in length, nor more than 36 inches in length and girt combined. In mailing gift packages to Navy, Marine and Coast Guard personnel, Admiral James called attention to these recommenda a strong box, use shredded paper inside the box, use strong wtapping paper, amd use strong wrapping cord. Demand for eggs will remain strong well into 1948, and will continue to exceed supplies at least until egg production increases * seasonally beginning next Decem ber, says a Washington report. In the past North Carolina has .had four regional fat stock shows and sales at Elkin, Asheville, Rocky Mount and Kinston. Greens boro is now planning a show for July, 1946, New Dining Lodge, Kitchen At Piedmont Boy Scout Camp To Be Dedicated The new dining lodge and kitch en at the Piedmont Boy Scout camp, Lake Lanier, considered by camp authorities as one of the finest camp buildings in the coun try, will be formally dedicated on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, at 2:30 o’clock. W. A. Dobson, Re gional Scout Executive, of Atlan ta, Ga., will be the principal speak er, and other officials of the elev en-county council, which has the second largest scout membership of the councils of the southeast, will take part in the program. Scouts, parents and friends of the Scouts, and the general pub lic are invited to the dedication exercises. The camp is located at Lake Lanier near Tryon, North Carolina, and is recognized as one of the finest Scout camps in America. The camp has been in operation for the past 20 summers and has served many thousands of boys. The enrollment of the camp this year will reach approximately 2,000 different Scouts. The dining lodge and kitchen replaces a building which was de stroyed by fire on August 20, 1943. A sum of $25,000.00 was subscrib ed by the citizens of the counties of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Ire dell. Lincoln, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford to replace the building and equip it and for other camp improvements. The new dining room and kitchen is of native stone and log construction and contains 6,152 souare feet of floor space. The kitchen is most modern . Continued on Back Page_
